First Focus Group, 9-10 November 2013 The first focus group session about “Bankruptcy reform” was held on November 9- 10, 2013 in Amman – Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. A group of Jordanian jurists and businessmen participated in these meetings, in addition to experts in Bankruptcy from Jordan and Egypt and the chief technical advisor (CTA) of the project. The meetings were divided into three main sessions which addressed the bankruptcy-based system in both Jordan and Egypt, the identification of the strengths and weaknesses, and the problems in the application thereof; and the presentation of the proposed draft law on “re- regulating the trader’s business and bankruptcy and liquidation provisions for the year 2012“, and discussed the strength and weak points therein; The sessions concluded a discussion among participants on other legal topics intersecting with the proposed draft law, including the responsibility of the company director, the enforcement procedures, access to information etc… |

Second Focus Group, 3 December 2013 The second focus group session about “Bankruptcy reform” was held on December 3, 2013 at Grand Hayat hotel in Amman. A group of Jordanian jurists and businessmen participated in these meetings, in addition to the Jordanian expert in Bankruptcy and the national coordinator on the project in Jordan, Mr. Asem El Rawashedeh. The meeting included a brief review of the current system of bankruptcy in the Jordanian Trade Act, and the international approaches of Bankruptcy law reform to foster the enterprises restructuring ; the draft law of “re- regulating the trader’s business and bankruptcy and liquidation provisions for the year 2012” in addition to the participants interventions on the status of companies in Jordan and the draft bankruptcy law . |

Third Focus Group, 26 February 2014 The third focus group session about “Bankruptcy reform” was held on February 26, 2013 at Grand Hayat hotel in Amman. A group of Jordanian jurists and businessmen participated in this session, in addition to the chief legal advisor of the project, Dr. Wassim Harb, the Jordanian legal expert, HE Dr Ayman Odeh and the project national coordinator, Mr. Asem El Rawashedeh. The meeting included a brief presentation about the current bankruptcy system in the Jordanian Trade Act, as well as about the content of the 2012 draft law on “ re-regulating the trader’s business and bankruptcy and liquidation provisions”, then an intervention by Prof. Harb on the importance of bankruptcy law in various legal regulations related to commercial work , and the international approaches of Bankruptcy law reform to foster the enterprises restructuring. At the end of the session, participants reviewed the survey that was prepared under the project and discussed its questions as well as the suggested recommendations to amend bankruptcy law and improve the new draft law before its ratification |
